Pointless Trouble Making Jackassery prohibited
— --rick

rhkennerly’s Bourbon and Porchlight is a personal project specifically designed to free myself from the major platforms and to provide myself with the greatest amount of control over the material I create.

B&PL is a refuge from anonymous bomb throwing, trolling, and uncivil behavior. However, it’s not the kind of “safe space” you think it might be. Just because you are offended or outraged does not mean that you are “right.” I don’t care much about how you “feel.” You’d better be able to stand and defend your position against the opposition.

All POVs are welcome.
I care more about how you think, not what you think.

However, there are myriad ways to express your thoughts.

You are judged here not only by what you say but how you say it.

And your continued presence on Bourbon and Porchlight is contingent on how you treat other people.

I strongly believe anyone can express an opinion or state a fact or argue a point to anyone else about anything, as long as you phrase it correctly.

There is no such thing as argument. Every argument is at bottom a relationship. Think about the relationship you are having with someone when you interact with them.

  • pointless trouble making jackassery

  • ad hominem attacks. Personal attacks and harassment will not be tolerated. Sexist, racist, misogynist, homophobic, and broad, offensive generalizations about groups of people are simply not allowed. Comments or discussions written intentionally to provoke will also be removed.

  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content.

  • knee-jerk contradiction

Comments that we find to be hateful, inflammatory, or harassing may be removed as well as the writers who post them. If you don’t have something nice to say about another user, don't say it.

Treat others the way you’d like to be treated.
